The Presentation
In this session, ETHNICTRO resident artist Jonas Engel will do a presentation about his artistic research and experience during his stay in ETHNICTRO. In this occasion, Jonas will be accompanied by Lintang Raditya who is the founder of Kenali Rangkai Pakai.
Jonas Engel is active as an improviser and composer in the young European creative music scene. His works and projects are moving between acoustic noise music (Solo, Our Hearts As Thieves) electronic progressive music (Engel/Wildeisen/Høi) and creative improjazz (OWN YOUR BONES, Just Another Foundry). He is based in Copenhagen and Cologne where he is next to his own bands active as sideman and coleader in several projects, defining the local music scene. After touring North and South America, most countries of Europe and the Near East, China, Vietnam and South Korea, it will be his first time travelling through Indonesia to confront his music with the influences of the Indonesian experimental and noise music scene.

Lintang Radittya is a self-taught instrument builder and sound artist/ performer based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. His current interests include DIY analog electronics, the relationship between sound and space, randomness, javanese futurism, and the meeting points of electroacoustic, noise, and experimental music. He has taught workshops, created exhibitions, performed live, given lectures, and created unique instruments and installations since 2007 across Asia, Europe, and Australia. In 2011, he founded Kenali Rangkai Pakai, a project that focuses on the research and development of DIY synthesizer culture in Indonesia, and in 2013 he initiated Synthesia-ID, a project that attempted to document and chronicle the country’s synthesizer culture (including building and development).
